Babcia’s Cherry Squares

Ingredients
Flour (4 cups)
Baking powder (4 teaspoons)
Sugar (1 cup)
Salt (½ teaspoon)
Butter and Crisco (totaling 3 quarters of a cup)
Eggs (5)
Sour cream (2 tablespoons)
Vanilla (4 teaspoons)
Cherry filling (2 cottage cheese containers’ worth)
Directions
1. To make dough, mix together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add butter and Crisco. Add 4 eggs, sour cream, and vanilla and mix together.
2. Roll dough on wax paper, then coat half of it on bottom of a metal tray (9’’ x 13’’). Add cherry filling. Slice other half of dough into strips, and lay the strips overtop filling.
3. Beat an egg and paint top layer of dough.
4. Put metal tray in oven for 45 minutes at 350 °F.
